A simple look at stem cell and banking

I think you may or may not be knowing about the Stem Cell technology and Stem Cell Banking. Here I would like to share few of my knowledge about Stem Cell. Now a day many middle class people is going for the stem cell banking in India.

Stem cells are undifferentiated cells that go on to develop into any of the more than 200 types of cell the adult human body holds, and can be used to replace or repair damaged cells, and have the potential to drastically change the treatment of conditions like cancer, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease and even paralysis.

One question may come into your mind, that from where to get Stem Cell? Answer is ;
Embryonic stem cells are derived from the inner cell mass of a blastocyst: the fertilized egg, called the zygote, divides and forms two cells; each of these cells divides again, and so on. Soon there is a hollow ball of about 150 cells called the blastocyst that contains two types of cells, the trophoblast and the inner cell mass. Embryonic stem cells are obtained from the inner cell mass.

Stem cells can also be found in small numbers in various tissues in the fetal and adult body. For example, blood stem cells are found in the bone marrow that give rise to all specialized blood cell types. Such tissue-specific stem cells have not yet been identified in all vital organs, and in some tissues like the brain, although stem cells exist, they are not very active, and thus do not readily respond to cell injury or damage.

Stem cells can also be obtained from other sources, for example, the umbilical cord of a newborn baby is a source of blood stem cells. Recently, scientists have also discovered the existence of cells in baby teeth and in amniotic fluid that may also have the potential to form multiple cell types.

Recently, cells with properties similar to embryonic stem cells, referred to as induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells) have been engineered from somatic cells.

In simple words we find stem cell in following way : The blood present in the umbilical cord (cord blood) is used to generate cell stems which help in cell regeneration.

Stem cells are normally found in bone marrow and umbilical-cords. They are the master cells responsible for productions of all the mature cells. They form the white cells that fight infection, the red cells that carry oxygen, the platelets that promote clotting and the cells of our immune system. LATELY, I have been thinking a lot about the Lehman crisis. Spending money that they didn't have and going beyond their means is one of the main reasons for their situation today. In fact that is the cause for the current economic crisis in the US .
When I see all this happening, I can only remember the good old days. Then, karz was bad. People looked down upon those who took loans. Parents would not give their daughter's hand in marriage to a man with loans.
But of course, the times have changed now. Everyone I know has a loan. The buzz word is EMI (equated monthly instalment). Today, you can buy everything on EMI - a house, a television, an I-Pod. In fact I know of someone who just bought a fancy BMW 3 series on EMI, instead of buying a cheaper car outright with cash. I mostly prefer to take public transport, but then I am an old man with old thoughts!
Anyway, coming back to what caused the crisis. Imagine having Rs. 2 Lakh in your bank account, no regular income, yet buying a house worth Rs. 65 Lakh, in the hope of selling it for a higher price. Even if the price of the house fell by just 5 per cent (that is Rs. 3 Lakh), you will go bankrupt.
This is what Lehman Brothers did; with around USD 20 billion they went and bought assets worth over USD 600 billion. Isn't it suicidal and simply foolish?
I am sure things would have been different, had I been the head of Lehman brothers. But who wants an old conservative man like me to head a complex financial institution.
But there are a few lessons that we can learn:
1.Live a balanced life and avoid overspending.
2.Don’t buy things we don't need.
3.Don’t buy Branded good’s.
4.Don’t buy excess Food, Cloths, Cosmetics, Footwear, electronics and Fashion accuracies
just think before you buy.
Tip: World still has a lot of growth ahead and the future holds immense opportunities for us. Let us make the most of it and save and invest it wisely instead of wasting our precious little on things we don't need.
5.Try to balance life with work (No one is happy to work in their profession).
6. Don’t stress out your self, after work try to do some extra activities like swimming, yoga, walking, running where you can divert your mind from stress.
A thumb rule: Health is more important than money.
7.Try to understand each other (Wife and Husband) in financial matter’s and help each other.
Tip: As soon as you get your monthly salary, set aside a fixed amount, usually 35 per cent, for insurance, savings and investments. You can then spend the rest.
8. Not all loans are bad. Loans that are 'need based' (home loans, education loans) can always find a place in your finances against those that are largely 'want based' (Credit cards, personal loans, car loans).
9. Borrow only if repayment is financially comfortable.
A thumb rule: Keep EMIs within 35 to 45 per cent of your monthly income
In that respect, there is one American who I really respect - WARREN BUFFET. He has lived in the same ordinary house for over three decades, drives his own medium sized car and leads an extremely regular 'middle class' life. If that's all it takes for the richest person on earth to be happy, why do all of us need to take extra stress just so that we can get things which aren't even essential?

Chaandrayaan-1 First Image of Earth, See..

Hi Science Freaks;

This is a very good news for the all science freaks; ISRO received the first image from the Chandrayaan-1 on October 29,2008.

This image was taken by Terrain Mapping Camera (TMC). Series of commends was given from Spacecraft Control Centre of ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Commend Network (ISTRAC) at Bangalore. Than the first image was analysed by Indian Deep Space Network (IDSN) at Byalalu and then processed by Indian Space Science Data Centre (ISSDC), these all confirmed the excellent working of camera.

The first imagery taken at 8:00 am IST from a height of 9,000 km shows the Northern coast of Australia.

The second image taken at 12:30 PM from a height of 70,000 km shows Australia’s Southern Coast.

TMC (Terrain Mapping Camera) is one of the eleven scientific instruments (payloads) of Chandrayaan-1. The camera can take black and white pictures of an object by recording the visible light reflected from it. The instrument has a resolution of about 5 metres.

Besides TMC, the other four Indian payloads of Chandrayaan-1 are the Hyper spectral Imager (HySI), Lunar Laser Ranging Instrument (LLRI), High Energy X-ray Spectrometer (HEX) and the Moon Impact Probe (MIP). The other six payloads of Chandrayaan-1 are from abroad.

It may be recalled that the 1380 kg Chandrayaan-1 was successfully launched into an initial elliptical orbit around the Earth by PSLV-C11 on October 22, 2008.

Global Warming, "Arctic" Icecap Is Melting Faster,Save Earth

Hi Freaks ;

As I was warning you from long time! At least wakeup now! A very big Tsunami will come and we all will despair like never before.

In a latest report I read that the “Arctic” icecap is now shrinking at record rates in the winter as well as summer. It is been observed a disastrous melting near the “North Pole” .

By British Scientists “Arctic” is likely to melt much faster than had been thought , even some researchers are saying that the summer icecap could vanish within a decade.

Geophysical Research letter showed that in last winter the average thickness of sea ice over the whole “Arctic” was 26cm (10%) less than the average thickness of previous five winters. However sea ice in the western “Arctic” lost about 49cm from the whole thickness.

Usually the “Arctic” icecap grows in winter and recedes in summer. At Polar Observation and Modelling at University College London (UCL), “Katharine Giles” said the thickness of “Arctic” sea ice had shown a slow downward trend during the previous five winters but then accelerated. Also she said the winter ice melting nose dived.

Now you can imagine the picture of the feature, how the coming age is going to be! What you think why this is happening?

Do the Global warming is responsible for this?
