This system is the result of recent academic research started at the University of Washington, with participants now also at the University of California San Diego and the University of California Davis. The foundations of the Adeona design and an analysis of its security and privacy properties are published in a research paper at the 2008 USENIX Security Symposium. The lead Ph.D. students on the project are Gabriel Maganis and Thomas Ristenpart, working with UW faculty members Tadayoshi Kohno and Arvind Krishnamurthy. This is named as Adeona, after the Roman goddess of safe returns.Adeona Installation Screen On Windows Vista You just have to install Adeona client on your laptop as it is very simple to install and it does the rest. The software runs in the background and continuously updates your current IP address as soon as it is connect to the Internet. When the stolen computer goes online, it sends a message with its own IP address on to the web and thus you can retrieve this information from any other computer by running the Adeona Recovery tool, but remember to always keep your Adeona-retrive Credentials.ost file (Its different for all users) with you (This is generated by Adeona it self while installation). Adeona is designed to use the Open Source OpenDHT distributed storage service to store location updates sent by a small software client installed on an owner's laptop. The client continually monitors the current location of the laptop, gathering information (such as IP addresses and local network topology) that can be used to identify its current location, it also operates the inbuilt camera to take pictures every half minuets of the person using the stolen device(can be used with the inbuilt camera into laptop). The client then uses strong cryptographic mechanisms to not only encrypt the location data, but also can ensure that the ciphertexts stored within OpenDHT are anonymous and unlinkable. At the same time, it is easy for an owner to retrieve location information through i.p address, and thus you can easily work with the cops to get your laptop back.

Adeona has three main properties:

* Private: Adeona uses state-of-the-art cryptographic mechanisms to ensure that the owner is the only party that can use the system to reveal the locations visited by a device.

* Reliable: Adeona uses a community-based remote storage facility, ensuring retrievability of recent location updates.

* Open source and free: Adeona's software is licensed under GPLv2. While your locations are secret, the tracking system's design is not.

Get Adeona download for your Windows OS Laptop or Linux based or for your Mac OS X laptop and start tracking your laptop. Go to the Home page of Adeona, after getting adeona installed you definitely join the Adeona user group on Google and if you are a code player (developer) than you be sure to join the Adeona Developers group to enhance this tracking software (Adeona) and  to contribute towards the code.
